Tire Changeover in Saskatoon, SK — Winter & Summer

Home » Tire Changeover in Saskatoon, SK — Winter & Summer

Saskatchewan doesn’t ease into its seasons — it slams into them. When temperatures drop below 7°C, all-season tires lose their grip, braking distances stretch, and the roads you drive every day become a different surface altogether. When the snow finally melts in spring, running winter tires through warm weather costs you tread life, fuel efficiency, and handling performance.

At Faithfull Tirecraft, seasonal tire changeovers are one of our most in-demand services — and for good reason. Our journeyman-certified technicians handle the swap properly: torqued to spec, balanced, inspected, and ready for whatever Saskatoon throws at you next.

What is a Tire Changeover?

A tire changeover means swapping your mounted tires from one season’s set to another — winter tires to all-season or summer tires in the spring, and back again in the fall. A proper changeover is more than pulling one set off and putting another on. It includes a tread depth inspection, wheel balance check, tire pressure adjustment, and a TPMS sensor reset where applicable.

Think of it as a seasonal safety checkpoint for your vehicle.

Winter Tire Changeover

Once temperatures consistently fall below 7°C — usually October in Saskatoon — all-season tires are working against you. Winter tires are made from a softer rubber compound that stays pliable in the cold, paired with tread patterns designed specifically for snow, slush, and ice. The difference in braking distance alone can be significant.

We carry winter tires from Michelin, Continental, BFG, General, Cooper, Hercules, and more. Our team will help you find the right fit for your vehicle, your driving habits, and your budget — without pressure. Our service staff isn’t on commission, so the recommendation you get is based on what actually makes sense for your car.

Spring and Summer Tire Changeover

Once the snow clears and temperatures climb consistently above 7°C — typically April in Saskatoon — it’s time to swap your winter tires out for all-season or summer tires. Running winter tires in warm weather wears the tread significantly faster, reduces fuel efficiency, and affects handling on dry roads.

Spring changeover season is our busiest time of year. Booking early is worth it — by mid-April, our schedule fills fast.

Why Seasonal Tire Changeovers Matter in Saskatchewan

Using the right tire for the season isn’t optional in this province — it’s a safety decision:

  • Winter tires grip in temperatures where all-season tires harden and lose traction
  • Summer tires deliver better fuel economy and handling in warm, dry conditions
  • Each set lasts significantly longer when it’s only used in its intended season
  • Properly stored tires don’t age from UV exposure, ozone, or road debris

Each set spends less time on the road, which means less wear, longer life, and better performance when you actually need it.

What’s Included in Our Changeover Service

Every changeover at Faithfull Tirecraft includes:

  • Removal and installation of your seasonal tires
  • Torque to manufacturer specification
  • Wheel balance check
  • Tire pressure adjustment
  • Tread depth inspection — tires flagged if they’re approaching the wear threshold
  • TPMS sensor reset where applicable

If our technicians spot anything worth your attention during the changeover — worn brake pads, a suspension issue, cracked sidewalls — you’ll hear about it. We use a Digital Vehicle Inspection system that sends you photos and video of what we’re seeing, so you can make an informed decision before any additional work is approved.

Tire Storage — $50 Per Season

Already running two sets of tires? We store them on-site for $50 per season — roughly half what most dealerships charge for the same service. Your tires are properly stored, retrieved when you need them, and mounted at your next changeover appointment.

No storing tires in your garage. No hunting around for them every six months. Just show up, and your set is ready to go.

When to Book Your Changeover

Saskatoon’s changeover seasons are predictable — and so is the rush:

  • Fall changeover: Book in September or early October, before the first cold snap hits. When the overnight low is consistently below 7°C, winter tires should be on.
  • Spring changeover: Book in late March or early April. Once the snow’s fully melted, we’re booked solid for weeks. Getting ahead of it saves you the wait.

If you’re uncertain about timing, call us. We’d rather give you a straight answer than have you on the wrong tires.

We’re an independent, owner-operated shop with five journeyman-certified technicians, no commissioned service staff, and a 3-year / 60,000 km warranty on parts and labour. We service all makes and models — not just the brands we’re incentivized to push.

When your tires come off and go back on at Faithfull, they’re handled by technicians who’ve worked through thousands of Saskatchewan winters. If something doesn’t look right, we’ll tell you before we do anything about it.
